Somerset County Industrial Development Authority (SCIDA)
The Somerset County Industrial Development Authority (SCIDA) was formed under the Industrial
Authority Law (Act No. 102 approved August 23, 1967). SCIDA was incorporated by Somerset
County and is managed by the Somerset County Economic Development Council. The primary purpose
of SCIDA is to facilitate bond financing for qualified businesses in Somerset County. SCIDA is
managed by the board of directors who serve a five-year term and are appointed by the Somerset
County Commissioners.

Partnership for Rural Industrial Development Enterprises( PRIDE)
Organized as a non-profit corporation in 1987, the Partnership for Rural Industrial
Development Enterprises (PRIDE) is a business incubator created for the purpose of
promoting, encouraging, and developing industrial manufacturing enterprises and rural
economic growth within Somerset County. Somerset County has a long history of
entrepreneurs and start-up businesses, and it is the goal of the PRIDE Business
Incubator to nurture new businesses and help them grow. PRIDE is currently classified
under the Internal Revenue code as a 501(c) (3) tax exemption. The organization is
comprised of an autonomous group formed by the Somerset Rural Electric Cooperative,
Inc., Somerset County Economic Development Council and the Somerset County Chamber
of Commerce.

PRIDES's former incubator tenants were Monk's Aerospace, AEPCOR (Affiliated Energy Products)
known today as AEPCOR-Geothermal, and Berkebile Chemical, Inc. known today as GUY Chemical,
Inc. PRIDE continues its growth as GPS Marketing (formerly GS Products) makes its home at
the incubator.
PRIDE is currently undertaking a fundraising campaign to raise money for the "Technically
Speaking" campaign, a public relations campaign to increase the awareness of the need for
technical education in our local economy

Johnstown Regional Industrial Authority (JARI)
We welcome Debi Balog, Director Workforce Development Director, to the SCEDC office every
Wednesday. Ms. Balog was hired by JARI to work with local businesses in Cambria and Somerset
Counties on their workforce development needs. Ms. Balog directs the Workforce Consortia
groups in the two counties, consults with Training Assessment & Planning and Workforce
Development Funding.

Small Business Development Center (SBDC)
SCEDC provides office space for St. Francis Small Business Development Center (SBDC) who
provides free business consulting.
Ms. Annette Chunko is the consultant from SBDC who works in conjunction with Mr. Bill Blasco,
JARI Center for Business Development. They meet the first and third Fridays in Somerset County.
The SBDC provides assistance to both existing small business owners and those thinking about
starting business. Assistance comes in two general areas. Of primary importance is to provide
free and confidential consulting to entrepreneurs. Assistance is provided in many areas
including business plan development, start-up procedures, financing proposals and market
analysis. Secondarily, the SBDC presents a variety of seminars and workshops geared to the
small business community.
